Wonka Vision Magazine "Summer Music Festivals, 2010" Illustration

Hi-O! Recently did an illustration for the newest issue of Wonka Vision Magazine coming out in mid April. It'll be on the inside back cover. The accompanying text spotlights a bunch the cool upcoming Summer Music Festivals around the country, including Chaos in Tejas, Rain Fest, Maryland Death Fest, Long Island Hardcore Fest, Sound and Fury Festival, This Is Hardcore, Pitchfork Music Festival, Bonnarroo and The Vans Warped Tour. Check out the links for more info.

This was inspired by, amongst other things, 70s rock posters ( u know, babe on a beast style), and added an oddball outdoor rowdy crowd, a hippie alt punk scene. Got a vision of a Black Rabbit in my head and couldn't shake it so...

Oh, and here's a VIDEO i made showing the process from sketch to final.
I started with traditional pencils and inks, then scanned it
and applied digital coloring and effects.

Oscar Illustration 2010 Jumbalaya: "Sketch to Final" Video

Featuring from left to right - Sandra Bullock, Jeremy Renner of "Hurt Locker" (dressed in bomb suit), George Clooney, Michael Stuhlbarg, John C. Reilly, (above) Neytiri/Zoe Saldana of "Avatar", (below) Mo'Nique from "Precious", Brad Pitt, Carey Mulligan from "An Education", Carl Fredrickson from "UP" and one of those Prawns from "District 9" - phew!

Hey folks - I did an illustration for the fine people over at Royal Flush Magazine to celebrate Oscar Week 2010! I took one character from each nominated movie (plus a BONUS actor), put them in a blender and voila. My lovely wife Daria wrote funny reviews for each of movies as well. Check them out over at the Royal Flush website. Here's a little taste...

DISTRICT 9 - "I’m of the opinion that all aliens are shady, and only want to come to earth to steal our natural resources like xantham gum and vitamin water. Make your own shit, aliens! And don’t come make problems for Africa either because they have enough to deal with."

BRILLIANT! Love you baby. This illustration took me quite a while to put together but am pretty thrilled with the results. I finally got a Wacom digital tablet last week and gave it a whirl. Whoa! Got kinda sloppy there for a while but it all came together in the end with a bit of faith and fortitude. Here's a video of the whole process from sketch to final, showing the evolution of the illustration.
