Time Out New York - Cleaning with MAGIC!

I got an illustration in this week’s Time Out New York for an article about apartment cleaning companies, Sorcerer’s Apprentice style. Hire a wizard today!

It was an overnight job, really pleased with the way it came out. Note to self: Gotta do more wizards…

LA Weekly - SURFERS TAKE MALIBU!

PJ-McQuade-Surfer-Judge-LA-Weekly

Got an illo in this week’s LA Weekly, out today. I modeled the surfer after Swayze from Point Break, with lots more tats, couldn’t resist putting a shark on his shoulder. Anyway, looks like it’s getting hot in Malibu. Go Surfers!

Sleepy Malibu in Political Upheaval, with surfers out to take power,
Who knew that a green plan to dredge and remake Malibu Lagoon so the listless water would flow better into the Pacific would instead split this environmentally aware town in half, cause a surfer uprising in which a bunch of surf bums decided to run for City Council to stop the dredging, and otherwise roil the ritzy village by the sea.

The Map of Hannibal Buress' Career - Time Out New York

Check out my map illustration in this week’s Time Out New York. It shows the career highlights of comedian Hannibal Buress from his days in Chicago to headlining Carolines in NYC and everything in between.

SPINOSAURUS!!!

Spinosaurus-by-PJ-McQuade

I did this for the nephew Ryan and printed it out for him 11x17". I was a complete DINO NUT as a kid. This stirred something inside me... Supposedly this is bigger than a T-Rex, and it has a cool back fan like a Demetrodon. Gonna get back into doing a whole lot more like this, along with experimenting with more cross hatching in other pieces. Will color it and add background when I get a chance.

LA Weekly - Driving Miss Saudi

Driving Miss Saudi PJ McQuade

Got an illustration in this week’s LA Weekly. Check it out all you Lala Landers. It’s for an article entitled “Driving Miss Saudi” about Jayne Amelia Larson, a down-n-out screenwriter’s experience chauffeuring the women of the Saudi Royal Family around Beverly Hills, along with all the other passengers that LA has to offer. She went on to publish a book about it and now has a one woman play based on the book.

It started off as a more likeness based gig but I saw a opportunity to do something more and went with it. The AD really dug the concept, approved my sketches and I took it to final. Looking to expand my repertoire into a more narrative based realm, think this is a nice start.

I threw a sheet over my poor wife to gather some reference for the burkas and bags. Here are some of the shots. We got some weird looks on the street.

Here’s a screen shot of all the files and other reference I used for the gig.
